Sažetak
Topics included in this special issue encompass a wide spatial-temporal range from Lower Paleolithic to Late Neolithic, from Albania in the south to Moravia in the north, and from Sardinia in the west to central Balkan Peninsula in the east. Two papers exceed the area mentioned above due to their widely applicable methodological approach to lithic assemblage analysis and theoretical model explaining the disappearance of Neandertals and origins of modern humans. Only one paper deals with Lower Paleolithic, five papers are in the chronological frame of the Middle Paleolithic while one paper discusses Middle/Upper Paleolithic transition. One paper is dedicated to the issue of Neandertal demise and modern human origins primarily in the frame of current genetic and genomic evidence. Regarding the Upper Paleolithic, four papers have been published in this special issue addressing questions related to the application of WABI statistical approach in analyzing lithic assemblages and its potential for interpreting human behavior on landscape scale, to LGM settlement in the south Adriatic, to lithic raw material procurement during late Epigravettian, and Pleistocene/Holocene transition in central-southern Italy. Regarding the Neolithic, two papers have been published in this special issue addressing questions related to the Neolithic osseous technology.
