Sažetak
The aim of this paper is to determine the concentration of the heavy metals (Cd, Cr, Cu, Ni, Pb, and Zn) and to characterize contamination status of the terraced soils from Primošten, Croatia. The study was conducted on shallow, skeletal and terraced Rigosol derived from Terra rossa on the Cretaceous limestones and dolomites. A total of eight topsoil samples were taken from the pedological profiles dug into the small agricultural parcels known as “kazeta” (“vlačica”). This specific type of soil reclamation – terracing similar to raster, involves separation of stones from the soil and construction of a rectangular stone walls dimension 6x4(3) m. The “kazeta” were created primarily for the vineyards and the olive groves but many of them have been abandoned for a long time. In the soil samples, basic chemical properties, particle size distribution, and heavy metals content were determined. The elements were extracted with aqua regia and determined with inductively coupled plasma - optical emission spectrometry. The following concentration ranges and mean values have been determined: Cd 0.68–2.55 mg kg–1 (mean 1.76 mg kg–1), Cu 32.61-1035.53 mg kg-1 (mean 178.75 mg kg–1), Cr 77.38- 111.92 mg kg-1 (mean 96.85 mg kg-1), Ni 53.54–92.59 mg kg–1 (mean 70.81 mg kg–1), Pb 35.35–42.22 mg kg–1 (mean 7.62 mg kg–1), and Zn 79.83-110.79 mg kg–1 (mean 98.09 mg kg–1). The Cr and Ni in all topsoil samples and Cd and Zn in six of eight samples have the concentrations above maximum admissible concentration values (MACv) according to the Croatian governmental Regulation (NN 9/14). The Pb concentrations in all samples are below the MACv. The Cu concentrations in three samples are above MACv, while remaining five samples have Cu concentrations below MACv indicating great differences in the duration of the copper based fungicides application in vineyards.
