Sažetak
Social work as a profession began to develop in the late 18th and early 19th centuries in the justice system (prison, sanction measures, measures for ex-prisoners, and first alternative sanctions). Modern social work by its basic definitions and ethical principles advocating and promoting the protection of human rights, equality, and changes to the benefit of its users, and the process of empowerment is based on the relation of community cooperation, trust, and power- sharing. On the other hand, the judicial system is largely focused on repression and predefined rules and a clear hierarchy, where experts from a position of "power" determine treatment and social reintegration programs without actual participation of persons subject to some of the measures or sanctions. People who are in the prison , or people under alternative sanctions certainly have experienced the feeling of exclusion, social stigma and lack of rights. This often leads social workers in their daily work in a "conflict of roles" between the rules set by the judicial system and "supportive" of the role of social work and protection of human rights in general. How to reconcile these different roles? What are the differences or i do we have any differences in the professional approach in relation to other professionals? What social workers do to promote their rights and the right of their client? Whether the professional community discuss about professional position and needs of social workers in the judicial system? Whether education and practice of social work recognise the specifics needs of the judicial system? As an introduction to the workshop 10 minutes will give an overview of the development of the social work profession through the judicial system and connect the basic definition, principles of social work, and the relationship between law and ethics, considering that from the standpoint of helping professions (social work), some lows and course of action may be inconsistent with the fundamental ethical principles and the definition of the profession.
