Sažetak
Residential child care in Croatia has a long tradition dating from the Fifteenth Century with the Catholic Church playing an important part in the provision of social care services including residential care and education for children. Residential placement for children in Croatia still exist and children are accommodated in large institutions with up to 40 children and approximate stays of five or more years, and for some young people, their entire childhood. Deinstitutionalisation of residential care settings for children started more than 10 years ago but due to political, economic and social challenges, it has been a slow and rigid process with Croatian residential child care still in the middle of transformation.
