Sažetak
Youth born after the war in Vukovar, Croatia, have been growing up in ethnically divided community characterized by interethnic tensions and strong social norm against interethnic contacts. In such context, ethnic upbringing is a challenging aspect of parenting, with important implications for youth’s developmental outcomes and their interethnic relations. The theoretical framework of ethnic socialization and its relationship with parents’ and children’s characteristics and experiences as well as children’s developmental outcomes will be presented along with an overview of the research on ethnic upbringing in the ethnically divided city of Vukovar.
