Sažetak
Background: Croatian institutions for residential child care are in the middle of atransformation. Deinstitutionalization started more than 10 years ago, but it is a slow and rigid process still going due to political and social context. Policy documents that follow deinstitutionalization are highlighting the importance of decreasing placements in residential care settings for children and youth and increasing the quality of social services in local communities and advancement of availability of those services in thelocal community. Improvement of the quality of care for children is the responsibility of the state and its institutions, the professionals in care for children, but also the responsibility of non-governmental organisations, experts from the academic field and the community itself. Aims and method: The aim of the research is needs assessment of child care institutions in the field of cooperation with university and NGO’s. The research is conducted by online questionnaire with all institution for children in care (homes for children without adequate parental care, centres for providing services in thecommunity, homes for children and youth with behavioural difficulties). Expected results: Research results will be available by the middle of May 2017 and it is expected that the findings will provide important information useful for improving cooperation between child care institutions, university and NGO’s but also to encourage and promote joint activities in the field of child care with the final purpose of improving the quality of child care in national context and wider. The presentation will include guidelines for improving existing forms of cooperation and implementation of new activities based on an assessment of current needs of institutions of child care in Croatia.
