Sažetak
While postmodernism is a critique of what people assume to be real, making it a view rather than a concept, a postmodern is a historical period coping with retro styles and nostalgic images of pop culture. Hence, postmodern film abounds in features such as pastiche, lack of distinction between high and low art, fragmented plot, rejection of grand narratives and the usage of mini-narratives, self-reflexivity, blurring of morality, and the representation of topics previously undealt with in mainstream cinema. Those features characterize all the films Quentin Tarantino has directed so far. Not a single film is an exception when it comes to the element of pastiche, i.e. paying homage to other films, or, for example, the fragmented plot as a favorite narrative device. Besides, Tarantino possesses an extraordinary knowledge of film history, domestic and international, which he perfectly uses when writing his own scripts and directing his own films. His usage of non-chronological narrative does not give space for the audience to predict ; it makes them concentrate more when watching a film. Tarantino has proven to be one of the greatest postmodern directors in film history.
