Sažetak
The Matteo Pagano's workshop map Tvto el Cõtado di Zara e Sebenicho (1530s) is one of the most important cartographic templates relevant for study of Croatian territory. In addition to primarily considering socio-geographical factors: settlements, fortifications, contemporary geostrategic relations etc., it presents effectively also cartographer’s knowledge about relief and waters of the karst area covering a large part of Lika and Northern Dalmatia. Mountain ranges (Velebit, Plješivica, Dinara, Lika highlands, Orljak, Promina) as well as numerous other hills were shown using a series of molehills. Inscribed are the names of the mountains Plješivica and Dinara (Monteplisiua, M. dinara), and, although wrongly located, Promina (M. promina) as well as Petrim and Bag Hills (monte petrin, monte bago). A common is designation of the local karst fields (Capagna dlapaz, La capagna di gracouo, Campagna de cerbauia, Campagna with vineyards /uigne/ near Knin ; campestral surfaces of Kosovo Polje, Petrovo Polje, parts of Promina Plateau and near Lovinac, were marked simply by Campagna, also Pusto Polje as pustopolige and Topolje as Topoglio). The name pedrosi (Kamenjane) indicates the composition of rocks. Indented coast is clearly presented showing many capes, bays, coves, islands and islets, salt works in Pag. Settlements use positions along suitable bays and coves, on small peninsulas or on the hills (acropolis type). In Zadar is visible channel that connects the city port with the Zadar Channel along the walls to the suburb of St. Martin. Water flows and lakes are often indicated, too. Rivers are not named except Butišnica River (Butisin .F.(lumen) the tributary of the Krka. It is marked Radljevac, the influx of Butišnica. Krka near Knin is designated as La fiumara, and its source as de quaisi el Fiu(me). Drawn are bridges at Knin and near mouth of Butišnica, passages at Roški Slap and Čučevo (paso, passo) and some river islets Scolii and uisioca (Visovac). Plotted are the Lika River and its tributaries (Jadova, Novčica, from Bilaj) and a bridge at Ribnik as well as river source originating from a cave. Clearly are distinguished rivers Krbavica, Zrmanja with the bridge at Zvonigrad and transition in Obrovac, Miljašić Jaruga (Gully) and Ražanačka Jaruga with mills, Krneza, lower flow of Bašćica, water around Vrana Fort with two streams flowing into Lake Vrana. Indicated is lower course of Velika Paklenica torrent near Većka Kula (ueza). Some lakes are marked by their names: Nadin Lake (Lago de nadin), Vrana Lake (Lago de la urana) and Nin Lake (Lago di nona).
