Sažetak
The regional landfill, located in Bosnia and Herzegovina, was planned to be constructed on tens of meters high uncompacted embankment composed of separation deposits from the nearby coal mine. The landfill construction is planned in two phases. In the first phase the landfill will reach the height of up to 30 m and in the second one the additional 18 m of height are planned. The foundation soil of the landfill consists of unconsolidated soil from the mine, under which is solid rock. Geotechnical site investigation revealed large heterogeneity in soil properties through depth and over the area. Two problems regarding landfill stability were detected: big settlement of the foundation soil and instability of the landfill. In order to reduce compressibility of the foundation, dynamic soil compaction was planned. Local and global landfill stability was analyzed for the needs of both construction phase plans. The paper presents results of settlement and stability analysis of the future landfill.
