Sažetak
Finite deformation contact problems, when discretized with finite element mesh, are often characterized with large sliding of slave nodes over several master segments. In such cases usage of low order contact elements can lead to: sudden changes in the surface normal field, loss of convergence properties, ill conditioning, or jumps in the velocity field in dynamic solutions. The problem is overcame by using the C1 continuous contact elements based on cubic polynomials. The smooth frictional and frictionless 2D contact elements are compared with the low order node-to-segment contact elements. The presented convergence studies provide information about the benefit of using the smooth contact approach. The approach is based on the elastic-plastic tangential slip vector decomposition, non-associated frictional law, penalty method and weak formulation.
