Sažetak
Since Western Corn Rootworm was found in village Bošnjaci, near Gunja, this territory was continuously examined threw different experiments regarding the presence and control of the pest. In 1998 and 1999, the investigation includes monitoring with pheromone traps Csal♀ m♂ N and yellow sticky traps. Pheromone traps showed better results and about 94% adults was captured by these method in compare to yellow sticky traps. It is important to stress out that the number of beetles which was caught in both years, showed that implementation of pesticides doesn't justify. Second experiment was conducted in 1999 and 2000, when three corn hybrids were tested with three different soil insecticides in order to reduce the attack intensity of harmful stages of this pest. Only insecticide (terbuphos) Counter according to its price and the price of corn, showed economical justification for its application. The latest experiment at the Gunja territory was conducted in 2001 and 2002, in order to investigate corn resistance to corn rootworms as one of the valuable alternative to insecticides. Twelve Croatian and two Pioneer hybrids were evaluated for WCR resistance. The root injury was rated using Iowa State University Node-Injury Scale (0-3), and the hybrids tolerance to larval feeding was compared by evaluating root size and the root regrow. Root injury was 0, 36 in 2001 and 0, 58 in 2002. Root size was 1, 92 and 3, 01 respectively and root regrow was 2, 48 and 3, 36 respectively for both years. Root regrows significantly differed between treatments.At Gunja region root injury damage was higher (EIL) in compare to Osijek region. It has to be stress out that in year 2002 in Baranya region some fields had over 30% plant lodging. All those facts required further investigation to find out the best crop rotation, tolerant hybrids and effective insecticide in our conditions.
