Sažetak
The aim of this paper is to present Installation research project “Creating wheat for the future–quest for the new genes in the old gene pool” financed by Croatian Science Foundation. Project goals are: assessment of phenotypic and molecular genetic diversity of wheat breeding germplasm ; identification of existing functional markers for agronomical important traits ; identification of marker- trait associations ; outlining the most suitable parents for future crossing and breeding programs. The knowledge gained through this project will provide the scientific training in biotechnology for young scientist from the Institute for Seed and Seedlings, as well as education and mentorship of his doctoral thesis at the Faculty of Agriculture in Osijek.
