Sažetak
The presence of the Albanian minority on the territory of Croatia has a long tradition and a different intensity over certain time periods. Apart from the prominent example of the Arbanasi in Zadar, whose roots reach back to the Venetian administration, the presence of the Albanian minority in Dalmatia has not been sufficiently represented in research. Albanians are one of 22 national minorities in the Republic of Croatia. There are 17, 513 members of the Albanian national minority registered in 2011, accounting for 0.41% of the total population of Croatia. 408 Albanians are listed in the Dubrovnik-Neretva Region, which is 0.33% of its total population.According to the results of the survey, all the respondents from Kosovo came to Croatia for economic reasons, and have been living in Metković for more than 20 years. They originate from Zym in the Prizren District, and Marmull in the District of Đakovica. The lines of work they perform in (one family of bakers and two families of goldsmiths) are the traditional trades for which the Albanian minority in Croatia is recognizable. Despite the fact that they still speak Albanian at home, all Albanians in Metković speak Croatian as well, and have achieved very good integration into the local community. They also fit with the majority of the population on the basis of religion, as all three families are Catholic. The survey also notes that none of the respondents have had any negative experiences concerning their origin and nationality during their time in Metković. All respondents expressed great satisfaction with the quality of life in Metković as well as their achieved existence, and would be willing to re- migrate only in case of deteriorating economic conditions. The representative of one of the three families has mentioned this particular case as the main reason for the planned departure of his family from Metković, and states the Federal Republic of Germany as their destination.
