Sažetak
Iris adriaticaTrinajstić ex Mitić is a new species of the genus Iris of the family Iridaceae, endemic to central Dalmatia (Croatia). It was first described in 2002 and is related to I. pseudopumila, I. pumila and I. attica. Major compounds in other Iris sp. are various isoflavonoids, a compound group which was shown to inhibit endothelial and cancer cell proliferation, as well as angiogenesis. Different plant batches of I. adriatica collected in spring of 2016 were analyzed for their phytochemical profiles and qualitatively compared. Another aim was the search for potential compounds fit for isolation and further pharmacological studies. UHPLC-PDA-ESI- MS analysis of methanolic root extracts were performed using a C-18 column (Agilent ZORBAX SB-C18, 2.1x100 mm, 1.8 µm) by gradient elution with acetonitrile/water + 0, 1% formic acid. Published MS and UV data of compounds described for different Iris sp. in subgenus Iris were gathered and used for interpretation. Isoflavonoids, benzophenones and xanthones were found to be the main constituent groups of I. adriatica rhizomes. Several isoflavonoids could be identified as major compounds, which is in alignment with phytochemical investigations of related species I. pseudopumila. Qualitative results were identical between different batches of plant material and only differed in quantity. These results are of chemosystematic relevance as there are no data for prior phytochemical analysis of I. adriatica present in literature. In addition I. adriatica, suitable for cultivation both in greenhouses and in vitro, proved to be a rich source of potentially relevant isoflavonoids for further pharmacological investigation.
