Sažetak
Air traffic safety implies numerous actors and the air traffic controller is one of the main ones. To be able to deal with any situation, student controllers are undergoing a long training including periods of shadowing a professional controller. Even if this solution creates the mandatory level of safety in air traffic management, it appeared interesting to quantify differences which exist between professionals and students. To fulfil this goal, it has been decided that the comparison will focus both on subjective complexity, i.e. the estimation of the complexity of the situation by the controller, and performance, i.e. their capability to maintain safety. 22 controllers, 10 professionals and 12 students have been compared through 3 different real-time human-in-the-loop simulations which recreated 3 different traffic loads, namely actual off-peak hour, actual peak hour and highest historical traffic load with added aircraft. The experiment showed that professionals and students rank complex situations similarly, in terms of subjective complexity, but professionals are better in terms of safety, i.e. making less mistakes. Nevertheless students and professionals deal with non-peak hour like situations similarly.
