Sažetak
With a comprehensive recapitulation of the history of particular types of perversion in the sexual sense (voyeuristic tendencies, exhibitionist acts, masochism, sadism, and so on…) starting from the earliest use of the term to its contemporary implications, the thesis attempts to understand the definition of perversion (pervertere in Latin means “turn around”) as a subversive tool in architecture, where it is used to invert architectural, cultural and social dogmas and taboos. The incident of 9/11 is the key moment in the beginning of a perverse age, coinciding with Rem Koolhaas’ decision to pursue the competition for the CCTV Tower in China, instead of the one for WTC in New York, which took place during the same period after the collapse of the Twin towers. In order to establish the theoretical framework for the analysis of Koolhaas’ post-2001 realizations through the prism of a perverse approach, the investigation explores the works of intellectuals from the field of philosophy, film, arts, and especially psychoanalysis – the six major characters being S. Freud, J. Lacan, S. Dali, G. Bataille, L. von Trier, and the most important character, Slavoj Žižek. This tool of perversion, once established, is employed in an in-depth analysis of Koolhaas’ architectural oeuvre.
