Sažetak
Trust is a common word, but it is not easy to understand, let alone explain. What does it mean to trust or mistrust someone or something? It is thus not surprising that trust has a slightly different meaning in different languages and different cultures. Trust is associated with communication. Good communication between project participants is crucial for project success. Poor communication is one of the most common project risks. Minimizing communication risk by developing trust between project participants is the key objective. Trust is not a control mechanism, but a substitute for control. The presentation takes an in-depth look into two closely related fields, construction management and project management, regarding the issues of trust and communication risk. It is grounded in many years of empirical research involving project managers with considerable experience in major construction projects across the world. The research itself is closely related to the ICB-IPMA Based Competences Baseline 3.0. A number of project managers who participated in the empirical research have suggested that a communication protocol should underpin the collaboration of all construction project parties. It should assist the project team in developing and maintaining a strategy to enhance communication throughout project delivery. Project managers should use it whenever necessary to minimize conflicts and resolve issues through continual communication with all stakeholders. In addition, the communication protocol should assist in the upkeep of all project records that may be required before the project’s completion.
