Sažetak
Distribution of REE and clay mineralogy were studied in two different types of soils situated on Lower Cretaceous limestones in Istria. Sampling was performed along three profiles of terra rossa, polygenetic red soil (5YR to 10R in Munsell Hue) of Quaternary age and one profile of grey waterlogged paleosol (5BG to 10BG in Munsell Hue) of Early Cretaceous age. Dominant mineral phases in the clay fraction of terra rossa are kaolinites, illitic material, Fe-oxides and XRD amorphous inorganic compounds. Illitic material, regularly and randomly oriented illite/smectite mixed layer minerals are dominant mineral phases in the clay fraction of grey waterlogged paleosol. The total REE content ranges from 104.09 to 394.95 ppm in terra rossa and from 87.80 to 123.56 ppm in grey waterlogged paleosol. (La/Yb)ch ratios in terra rossa ranges from 8.5 to 13.18. and are higher than that of ES indicating LREE enrichment relative to HREE. On the contrary, (La/Yb)ch ratios in grey waterlogged paleosol ranges from 4.51 to 6.82 and are significantly lower than that of ES indicating HREE enrichment relative to LREE. The difference in total REE in analysed terra rossa can be attributed to the REE content in external rocks which have contributed in genesis of terra rossa, modified by weathering processes which characterise specific pedoenvironment in which terra rossa is formed. pH seems to be a key factor in controling the fate of the REE in grey waterlogged paleosol.
