Sažetak
Past development of air transport in Croatia points to a pe-riod of intense expansion up to the year 1995, followed by a moderate growth until the year 2000. The existing transport network and traffic flows have cre¬ated preconditions for socially justifiable development of all categories of air traffic. The applicable criteria and forecasting methods indicate the dynamics of growth in air transport, whereby special emphasis should be laid on factors which de- pend on the stimulation of tourism development in Croatia. Strategic directions of air transport development by the year 2010 suggest the most intense growth rate of charter traffic (7.0% - 15.4%), modest growth of international scheduled traffic (5.3% - 8.6%), and relatively low growth rates in domes¬tic scheduled traffic (3.2% - 6.0%). The basic aims of the future development strategy in air transport in Croatia can be summarised as rise in operating productivity and business profitability. Along these lines the next investment cycle should provide the foundation for the def¬inition, commencement and completion of the process of privatisation of airlines, which should be managed in compli¬ance with the requirements of sustainable development. Finally, a revision of the existing official planning, forecast-ing and strategic development document is needed as soon as possible.
