Sažetak
Lavandula angustifolia L. extracts are highly present in the food, cosmetic as well as pharmaceutical industry (exhibiting antioxidant, antibacterial, antifungal or antispasmodic activity). For present research, L. angustifolia flowers were collected in Bosnia and Hercegovina in spring 2016. CO2 in supercritical state (SC-CO2), as environmentally-friendly solvent, was used to obtain the plant extracts containing coumarin and herniarin. Coumarin and its derivatives exhibit significant pharmacological properties, e.g. antitumor, antiinflammatory, antibacterial, antifungal, diuretic, analgesic and bronchodilator impacts. It has been proven that SC-CO2 is the efficacious solvent for the extraction of coumarin from different natural sources, but data on the extraction of coumarin from L. angustifolia is missing. Varying the extraction parameters significantly affects the solvents’ extraction power and, consequently, the chemical profile of the final extract. The aim of this study was to investigate the influence of different extraction parameters (pressure, temperature, and CO2 flow rate) on: a) the total extraction yield, and b) content of coumarin and herniarin analyzed by HPLC. Central composite experimental design was applied for optimization along with the response surface methodology. The optimal conditions for obtaining the highest extraction yield, as well as coumarin and herniarin content, within the experimental range of the variables studied were at extraction pressure of 30 MPa, temperature of 45 °C and CO2 flow rate of 3 kg/h. Under these optimal conditions, the predicted extraction oil yield was 8.25%, coumarin 18.05 mg/100 g and herniarin 12.72 mg/100 g.
