Sažetak
In the current circumstances of the Western Balkans, simply speaking, the integration of the Balkan countries into Europe is the only option. Ultimate peace and security in the Balkans is a precondition for peaceful cultural and ethnic coexistence, free movement of goods and ideas, while significantly shortening the period of exchange between the producers and users. Road transport infrastructure in Kosovo, due to lack of investment for a long time, but also because of the destructions during the war in 1999, has undergone major changes. Geographically, Kosovo is an important crossroad of the Balkan Peninsula, and its position allows a close relationship with the neighboring countries in the region. Kosovo has an important position as a bridge, being an important hub, as well as for the Pan-European corridors VIII and X. Starting from my research, this paper will present three transportation projects for discussion, as a process that will integrate Kosovo with the neighboring countries. 1 – Pristina - Nis highway, 2 – Pristina – Kosovo border with Macedonia highway, 3 – Kraljevo - Pristina - Gorče Petrov railway. The three aforementioned projects have been selected for Kosovo, among 24 projects which have been planned for investments in the road and railways infrastructure by the European Union (EU). The selection of the projects occurred at the 2015 Vienna Summit, which represents the continuation of the ‘Berlin Process’ for the six countries of the West Balkans.
