This book provides a representative overview of recent contributions to rhetoric: (1) it reports on new developments in the field that relate rhetorical insights to dialectical approaches to argumentation, to the formal language of logic, and to the visual mode of the process of persuasion ; (2) it contains clear explanations and elaborations of some of the central notions of rhetoric such as audience, argumentation, pathos, and tropes ; and (3) it reflects the broadness of the applications of rhetorical theory, containing analyses and evaluations of discourse from the political, scientific, legal, and religious domains of communication.
