Sažetak
Laboratory tests were carried out to examine the insecticidal effect of six (6) different pure natural diatomaceous earths (DEs): Celite 209, Perma Guard, DiaFil 610 (The USA DEs), Keepdry (Brazilian DE), InsectoSec (German DE) and Clarcel (French DE) and their mixtures on wheat grain against three stored-grain beetle species: Cryptolestes ferrugineus Stephens, Sitophilus oryzae (L.), and Tribolium castaneum (Herbst). The objective of this study was to determine the effect of blending of DEs with different physical and chemical properties on the effectiveness against insects. The following mixtures were prepared (ratio 50:50): Celite 209 + DiaFil 610, Celite 209 + Perma Guard, Celite 209 + Keepdry, Celite 209 + InsectoSec, Celite + Clarcel, DiaFil 610 + Perma Guard, DiaFil 610 + Keepdry, DiaFil 610 + InsectoSec, DiaFil + Clarcel, Perma Guard + Keepdry, Perma Guard + InsectoSec, Perma Guard + Clarcel, Keepdry + InsectoSec, Keepdry + Clarcel and InsectoSec + Clarcel. DEs alone and their mixtures were applied at 500 mg/kg of clean hard grain with 13.6% moisture content and hold at 30 0C ± 1 and 65 to 75% air relative humidity. Although few results indicate the slight increase of the effectiveness, the mixtures of DEs didn’t generate a significantly higher effectiveness when compared with the effectiveness of effective DE in the mixture when applied alone. The results of the present work indicate that blending of DEs together may not produce a new DE formulation that is more effective against stored insect pests.
