Sažetak
Data shows increasing number of children and young people growing up in a family atmosphere burdened with parental conflicts. Hostility in relationships between parents often spills over on the parent-child relationship. This paper will present the results of quantitative research which focus is on correlations between children's perception of parental conflicts and the quality of the parents' marriage with the experience of parental acceptance-rejection during childhood. In a survey participated 468 students from the University of Zagreb. Results are based on a subjective assessment and retrospective testimony of the respondents about the family environment in which they grew up during their childhood. Descriptive statistics, t-test, analysis of variance and correlation analysis were used for the data analysis. The results confirm the hypothesis that the parents who are frequently in a conflict often show hostile and critical behavior towards their children and are less emotionally available for their needs. In conclusion is emphasized the practical value of these research results. Special importance is on developing prevention and treatment programs for parents with disturbed quality of marriage. In addition, the need to improve the system of protecting rights and interests of children exposed to parental conflict is highlighted.
