Prevention of exposure to mycotoxins from food and feed
Sažetak
Mycotoxins are metabolites of moulds that may be found in food and feed of plant and animal origin. In this short review the agronomical methods and the recommendations for the storage of food and feed intended for the prevention of mould contamination and the production of moulds are presented. Practical methods of decontamination of feed are described as well as the use of feed additives that may be considered in some cases when the described methods of the prevention of mycotoxin contamination have failed. However, these methods should be avoided as much as possible because they increase the cost of production, may reduce the nutritional value of feed and may leave residues of mycotoxins or their toxic metabolites. Since there is no unique and reliable method of feed decontamination of all mycotoxins, the importance of preventive measures is stressed.
