Sažetak
According to much research, information and communications technologies (ICT) have an extremely large influence on life and work in general. Practically, it seems that the said influence grows larger so ICT is in use today as the most modern teaching tool and aid with vast possibilities in all education areas. This technology offers improvement of quality and efficiency of the education system, also enabling distance learning and thus making education accessible to special groups tied to hospitals, institutions or people’s homes. Distance learning with computer knowledge adds to education being less dependent to factors like physical accessibility and individual teachers. The other big convenience of ICT learning is distance learning in the whole life learning system and acquiring of complex skills. ICT offers and develops social networks as a specific form of communication by which it enters all segments of communication. The use of social networks is expressive in all youth education groups. The use of individual networks parallels changes with growing up and includes several specificities by kind, shape and ways of communication. The research of communication through these networks gives new understanding of characteristics of observed groups and/or youth generations. Young people decrease their activity and/or leave social networks which have their parents and family members logged on and replace them with other networks and applications (e.g. replacing Facebook with WhatsApp, Instagram, Twitter and Tinder). Some skills the youth are familiar with unlike previous generations who started to learn and use those skills on entering the work process (e.g. writing a resume, self- presentation, self-branding, quick reaction, and compared to a group extremely quick reaction and organizing as needed). The UNESCO document ''Education for the 21st century'' guides the education system towards ''learn how to learn'' with the end goal being the accomplishment of competence. In the framework of European Union's national strategies, the attention is given to language- communication competencies and literacy quality improvement as one of the whole life learning activity. Every education system supports methods and strategies for competency development, critical thinking development, action learning, and cooperation action of students and teachers interactively. The experts in the field of education are intensifying the efforts to give attention to not only the development of cognitive and work productive competencies, but also to the development of communication competencies and interpersonal and psychosocial skills which are an integral part of an individual's social and emotional component. In nursing care education, it is extremely important to acquire communication skills as a procedural knowledge and as a foundation for further educational and professional development. It's important to develop the abilities of the mind or the right hemisphere of the brain, even more so than in other professions, as it is important to develop the left one. In this paper the authors will discuss possible influences of social networks on future nursing care workers' communication competencies with the accentuation on key communication skills which are vital in the care for the sick and needy man.
