Sažetak
The Quartetto Triestino gave four concerts in Zagreb between 1908 and 1924, mostly within its tours in Central Europe. The four musicians (Jancovich, Viezzoli, Dudovich and Baraldi) invited two guests (the pianist Emilio Russi and the alto Menotti Bemporat), and presented eleven pieces to the audience: four quintets and quartets seven by nine composers. Three of them were from the age of Classicism (Boccherini, Haydn, Beethoven), four were from the period of Romanticism (Brahms, Dvorak, Bruckner, Schubert) ; two contemporary French composers (Debussy, Ravel) were performed as well. The critics noticed the predominance of German authors, and in their comments, they always praised the understanding and interpretation of this music. Zagreb dailies and weeklies published reviews of their performances. The critics were always enthusiastic about their virtuosity, coordination and sound. The audience, although not always very rich in number, greeted them with ardor, and rewarded them with a long applause. Finally, guest performances of the Quartetto Triestino were important for the development of chamber music in Zagreb. On the one hand, they gave the impetus to domestic musicians to organize themselves in a similar way, and on the other, they raised the level of the standard quality of music making significantly, together with other fine guest performers who were enthusiastically greeted in that city.
