Sažetak
Introduction. The nasal mucosa in highly specialized immunologic barrier that has evolved to process a constant load of foreign antigens with minimal collateral inflammation. Deep in the epithelium reside a variety of immune cells including lymphocytes and antigen presenting cells (APCs), specifically dendritic cells and macrophages. These are key components of the acquired immune respons. Nasal polyposis and allergic rhinitis are the most common chronic disorders in upper respiratory track. Vitamid D, as an immunomodulatory steroid hormone, directly affects dendritic cell, monocyte, macrophage, B cell and T cell functions. It has been shown that vitamin D have an immunomodulatory effect with a significant impact on immune function. Specifically, vitamin D regulates the mechanisms which suppress the inflamatory response and direct the differentiation fate of immune cells. Vitamin D has been shown to play an important role in asthma, and the concepts of the unified airway model allows the extrapolation of vitamin D as a critical player in chronic rhinosinusitis. The purpose of this study is to discuss the role of vitamin D in patients with nasala polyposis and allergic rhinitis. Materials and Methods. Study consists 35 patients with nasal polyposis and allergic rhinitis. Vitamin D serum lever was analysed from the patients blood. Results. In patients with nasal polyposis and allergic rhinitis we found mostly insufficiency and deficiency oft he vitamine. Conclusion. The assessment of vitamin D is rapidly becoming an important tool in the diagnosis and management of many diverse pathologies therefore measuring serum levels of vitamin D could be considered in the routine assessment of patients with upper respiratory disease. Vitamin D supplementation could be prescribed according to the status of deficiency.
