Sažetak
Studies have found that between 11% to 39% of bipolar patients also meet criteria for PTSD. Recent review revealed the mean prevalence of PTSD in bipolar patients is 16.0% (95% CI: 14- 18%), a rate that is roughly double the lifetime prevalence for PTSD in the general population. People with PTSD and bipolar disorder have reduced quality of life, more rapid cycling, increased risk for suicide attempts and greater levels of depression among people with bipolar disorder. Since antidepressants are the first-line pharmacotherapeutic agents in the management of PTSD, the clinical challenges of psychopharmacotherapy of this comorbidity will be discussed.
