Sažetak
Application of non-thermal plasma processing in food industry and agriculture is rapidly growing in recent years. Plasma treatment has a high potential in solving various problems connected to inactivation of microorganisms, the acceleration or inhibition of seed germination and crop growth, and is recently also used for extraction of bioactive compounds. Either seeds or plants are directly exposed to plasma or water is plasma treated and plasma treated water then applied to bio material. In parallel, other (old) concepts such as vertical farming and hydroponic growth are gaining additional acceleration and new perspectives. Highly controlled-environment agriculture technologies are getting more and more feasible, with for example special advances as artificial lighting with cheap LED technology is becoming available. This opens also new possibilities for introducing plasma technologies in addition. We shall discuss various possibilities of using plasma technologies in specific hydroponic growth of various cultures. Several new projects recently started in Zagreb will be introduced. Details of several plasma sources, low pressure and atmospheric used for seeds treatment, their characterization and preliminary results of several experiments observing influence on seed surface (contact angle and wettability) and germination, will be presented.
