Sažetak
Mushroom poisoning can lead to serious consequences and to life threatening situations, and should never be taken lightly. It is important to have a systematic and organized response when confronted to mushroom poisoning, which is why having an algorithm that is simple but that can easily rule out the less severe cases is necessary. By looking at the delay of the appearance of symptoms after the ingestion of the suspected mushroom, one will be able to categorize the intoxication. If the symptoms have appeared rapidly, in less than 6 hours after ingestion, this will rule out poisoning by Amanita phalloides, the major culprit for the most deaths by mushroom poisoning. Mushroom poisoning happens more in rural areas and during the rainy season, and the symptoms are overwhelmingly vomiting, diarrhea and abdominal pain. There are a wide variety of specific syndromes, some occurring under 6 hours after ingestion like the gastrointestinal syndrome, the psilocybin syndrome, the coprinus syndrome, the paxillus syndrome, the pantherina syndrome and the muscarine syndrome. The syndromes occurring 6 hours or more after ingestion tend to be more severe, and they are the phalloidin syndrome, the gyromitrin syndrome, the orellanus syndrome and new syndromes like the proximia syndrome, rhabdomyolysis and erythromelalgia.
