Sažetak
The paper examines the foundation of J. K. Rowling's works, the literary, cultural, commercial and psychological reasons for the success of the Harry Potter series, and the relationship of technology and magic within the author's narrative system. Although the novels are not distinguished by originality or innovativeness they have attracted a worldwide readership. None of the commonly discussed reasons seems to offer a complete and comprehensive explanation for the success of the novels, which appears to be based on the one hand by the author’s intricate plotting and on the other by her careful blending of the magical world with the real everyday world of her readers. The opposition of magic v. technology in Rowling's works implies that magic creates a connection between people, while technology dehumanizes human beings who have lost their foothold in the nature.
