Sažetak
Asylum seekers and refugees have been agents of border crossings and their cross-border experiences are mixed with different kinds of uncertainty, inequality and hopelessness. The paper examines what actions some of them take in order to surpass inequalities and uncertainty and (re)find hope in the countries in which they search asylum. It is based on ethnographical fieldwork done around the initiative „Taste of Home“, a cooperative which gathers refugees and migrants who cook dishes from their home or countries of origin, share recipes with “others” (local population), cook with them in a form of workshops, and also offer food catering services to the ones who like to taste food of, mostly, Middle East, Asian and African origin. From refugees’ narratives it is possible to discern if there is a hope or not in their lives after they crossed the borders or if there are still more borders to cross before they find hope, certainty and equality.
