Sažetak
The first scientific conference „Kopački Rit – past, present, future“ was held in Tikveš on 27 September 2012 gathering the scientists from different disciplines to present the accomplishments and to announce the planned research activities in the extended area of the Kopački Rit Nature Park. The same year, UNESCO declared the cross-border biosphere Reserve Mura – Drava – Danube located between Croatia and Hungary on 11 July and included it into the World Network of Biosphere Reserves. Kopački Rit Nature Park has a key role in the biosphere reserve due to its exceptional natural values and because of the experience in managing this protected area. Following the first symposium, four more symposia were held and the one-day symposium soon became a two-day one because of an increasing number of registered participants and the number of presentations. Since 2015, the symposium has involved international participation and the plenary speakers included acknowledged scientists with a rich working experience in national parks and nature parks all over the Europe. Last year, the Fifth Symposium with international participation was organised by: the Public Institution for Nature Protection „Kopački Rit Nature Park“, the Faculty of Agriculture and the Faculty of Education with the co-organisation by the international association of protected areas alongside the River Danube „Danubeparks“ and the international scientific association „Balkan Environmental Association“. Five symposia held in a relatively short period and the sixth one already in preparation in 2017 have the tendency to gather as many participants from a growing number of different institutions and countries.
