Sažetak
This paper adopts as its method Stuart Hall's concept of conjucture which, along with articulation, has served cultural studies in its interrogation of critical social, political and cultural developments in the UK and the postcolonial world in the latter half of the 20th century, and the paper seeks to understand the symbolic and political negotiations of the Balkans in the early 21st century as a conjuncture of European identities, crisis of democracy and neoliberal capitalism, and symbolic and corporeal mobilities. The paper traverses a number of critical developments, starting with a host of renaming strategies in the region, and considering the responses to refugee crisis, post-Yugoslav transition and EU accession as a cultural politics of identity articulated through space.
