Sažetak
Among noncontagious infections urinary tract infections are the most common. Since there is a danger of permanent late complications, it is of utmost importance to make the correct diagnosis in time and to start the appropriate therapy. On the basis of clinical picture and laboratory findings the inflammatory process is localised and the way and duration of treatment chosen. In serious cases of acute pyelonephritis or acute exacerbation of chronic pyelonephritis patients are usually hospitalised. In a number of other indications patients can be treated in outpatient departments. This paper reports on our experience in the treatment of urinary tract infections at the Clinical Hospital for Infectious Diseases in Zagreb. The outpatient department for urinary tract infections was established 17 years ago and was meant initially for inpatients only. In time it was changed into a predominantly outpatient department.
