The architect Zoja Dumengjić realised her comprehensive professional work during the mid- fifties of the twentieth century. The comprehensive scope of activities of Zoja Dumengjić can be clearly recognized through several intervals: the study of architecture at the Technical Faculty in Zagreb (1923–1927), the first years of professional experience in Architectural studio Fischer (1928–1930), the designer of the School of Public Health (1930– 1941), the Second World War and reconstruction of the country (1941–1948), independent designer in Architectural-Project-Engineering Institute (1948–1954) and the head as well as the independent designer of architectural studio "Dumengjić" (1954–1975). The framework of various socio-political systems and the times when the country had been devastated by the Second World War, considerably influenced the professional opus of the architect, but also the specific quality of modern Croatian architecture as a whole. The outstanding characteristics of the work of architect Zoja Dumengjić has already been recognized during her lifetime, when her work has been, in its entirety, awarded two most prominent professional life achievement prizes. In 1975 the architect Dumengjić received the life's- work award "Viktor Kovačić" by the Association of Croatian Architects and in 1995 the life achievement award in the field of architecture "Vladimir Nazor" by the Parliament of the Republic of Croatia. The architect's work represents the specific author's contribution within the body of modern Croatian architecture, and the particularity of her work can be recognized in several fundamental components. The most prominent contribution of the architect Dumengjić had undoubtedly been in the area of public health service architecture during the fifties in the twentieth century.
