The brief deals with the political phenomenon of sovereignist populism in the European Union, explaining it as a reaction to the trend of competency transfer from national capitals to the seat of the EU in Brussels. The causes of populist parties’ recent electoral successes are analyzed together with the possible consequences of these developments for the Union.
