Sažetak
This article addresses the field of bloodstain analysis as an important tool for the reconstruction of violent crimes, as well as other criminal activities which produce injuries resulting in bleeding of the involved participants. Interpretation of bloodstains depends on numerous factors such as blood source, impact surface on which bloodstains can be found, as well as on the mechanisms of their formation. By analyzing measurable characteristics of bloodstains it is possible to determine the position and other characteristics of blood source, as well as type, direction and number of blows, shots or stabs which have produced those bloodstains. The results of this kind of analysis can point to the mechanisms of bloodstain formation, as well as determine how particular bloodstains have landed on certain objects. Results of bloodstain analysis can indicate the direction of movement of the victim, the perpetrator and other objects in connection to the violent crime. Measurable characteristics of bloodstains can indicate the circumstances of a particular criminal offense by confirmation or rejection of statements of the participants, as well as help with its legal qualification. In this article it will also be stressed that proper documentation of the situation on the crime scene is a precondition to quality assured subsequent bloodstain analysis.
