Sažetak
The aim of this paper is to reconstruct everyday life, demographic patterns, and palaeopathological characteristics of the late medieval inhabitants of Ilok. This is achieved through a comprehensive bioarchaeological analysis of human skeletal and dental remains from two archaeological sites in Ilok: Ađanski kraj / Krstbajer and St. Peter the Apostle. According to the written historic sources and recovered archaeological artefacts members of different social categories were buried at these sites - lower social categories were buried at the Ađanski kraj / Krstbajer site, while individuals belonging to privileged classes were buried at the church of St. Peter the Apostle. Based on this assumption differences in terms of general health and diet, and consequently living conditions and lifestyle, between the two samples are examined, as well as between the sexes and various age groups. In order to get a better picture on the lifestyle of the studied population, comparisons are made with contemporaneous skeletal samples from the region (eastern Croatia, southern Hungary, and northern Serbia). In addition, written historical sources testifying on the aspects of everyday life of the late medieval inhabitants of Ilok are also consulted.
