Sažetak
Historic pathways are one of the most prominent features of a landscape. Apart from remaining a perpetual mark and having partly transformed the landscape through which they pass, in addition to their economic, traffic and socio- anthropological significance throughout history, today they participate in the articulation of a symbolic connotation of the landscape and identify its historic layers. Moreover, thanks to their well-preserved state, these historic pathways have a great, though still unused potential in terms of new functions, planned in compliance with the fundamental principles of renovation and conservation of architectural heritage. The main thesis of this research rests upon refunctionalization of the historic pathways by means of establishing and enhancing the landscape through which they pass as parts of public spaces of the specific urban zones, as new recreation urban areas, as specific historic-narrative routes. The historic urban landscape of the broader area of the City of Dubrovnik is an exceptionally layered space in which urban remains may be traced from the early Middle Ages to the present day. In the immediate vicinity of the historic medieval-Renaissance nucleus of Dubrovnik there is a series of historic pathways – routes which have survived until today. This research examines the inner zone of the City of Dubrovnik ; areas of Rijeka dubrovačka with Šumet and Brgat, Srđ area, area towards Osojnik. Within the studied area, the layout of the historic pathways has been identified, the time of their origin established, as well as the role they played through history in terms of a destination point to which they led. The key part of the research concerns the finding of a principle on the basis of which refunctionalization of certain historic pathways in the area of the City of Dubrovnik would be possible and their connecting into a unique system of historic pathways routes.
