Sažetak
From the time after the Second World War folk dance ensembles in the cities, mostly in Eastern and South Eastern Europe, were established and became a new way of public presentation of national traditions. The inspiration came from rural culture - peasant songs, dances and costumes. In federal political state such as former Yugoslavia, stylised songs and dances performed by city folk dance ensembles were the political tool for showing brotherhood and unity of different nations and nationalities. The presentations were under the influence of stylised performances by the Moiseyev Ballet thanks to international festival stages. Croatian folk dance stage was divided between city ensembles performing stylised choreographies of "Yugoslav program" and peasant groups performing their native traditions. Urban folk dance stage and its program have been politically changed after the break of Yugoslavia but the style of presentation has not been changed and is far from the peasant culture patterns. Members of urban ensembles are young students that became new social stratum of recreational folk dancers developing their own styles of performances together with authors, choreographers. International public on folk dance festivals, and recreational or senior dance groups participate in performances of music and dances from different cultures. Is it possible to talk about building a new music/dance genre and style of local dances or performing without the style?
