Sažetak
Dominick LaCapra points out the need for ritualized social practices which could facilitate processes of working through on the level of groups and whole nations. For this purpose, he expands Pierre Nora’s concept of “space of memory” into “space of mourning”, stressing the fact that the process of confronting the past is crucial for healing. This presentation focuses on documentary performances as potential spaces of mourning which intervene into social representations of the past which systematically excluded traumatic memory. By recreating the past, documentary performances facilitate collective processes of working through past trauma. However, the need to voice the past was frequently accompanied by the use of theatre for ideological purposes.
