Sažetak
The writing of Drago Gervais can be seen as an account which reflects the voice of the subcolonial Liburnia, the area one the eastern coast of the Istrian Peninsula beneath Ucka Mountain, stretching between the Bay of Plomin and the Cove of Preluka, traditionally, a summer resort in Central Europe, an area whose history was written by the many who crossed it. Our analysis is centered on two coordinates: literature as history and history as a biography. That is because Gervais’ (auto)biography, as a testimony of the turbulent history of spaces which shares the fate of Central Europe, becomes/remains the foundation for the creation of his fiction where specific biographical, literary, aesthetic and ideational motifs interweave.
