Sažetak
Aim Evaluation of the risks for development of cardiovascular disease in younger population. Materials and Methods This research was conducted on 20 students at Colledge for Applied Sciences Lavoslav Ružička Vukovar, 6 males and 14 females, age 19-23. They completed a questionnaire about physical activity and history of cardiovascular disease in the family. Blood samples were also taken and tested for total cholesterol, low density (LDL) and high density (HDL) lipoproteines, and triglyceride. Bioimpedance method (BIA) was used to determine body type, BMI, percent of body fat (PBF) and waist to hip ratio (WHR). Results In most students physical activity is insufficient. Levels of LDL, HDL, total cholesterol and triglyceride are slightly elevated. There is no family history of cardiovascular disease present in most examinees. Conclusion Risk factors such as high levels of triglyceride and low density lipoproteines, and low levels of high density lipoproteines can lead to cardiovascular disease.
