Sažetak
The influence of nutrient intake to peak bone mass is still largerly unexplored and undefined. The aim of this study was to investigate correlation between average daily intake of different nutrients and bone mineral density (BMD) or bone mineral content (BMC) in period of life in which peak bone mass is achieved. Forty seven healthy individuals (men and women) aged 20-25 years filled up a food frequency questionnaire (FFQ) and had Dual Energy X-Ray Absorptiometry (DXA) scan of L1-L4 spine and hips. Results of DXA for bone mineral density and bone mineral content were correlated to average daily intake of 50 different nutrients or food types obtained from FFQ. Results show positive correlations between energy intake and BMD. BMD and BMC in three measured sites also positively correlate with protein intake, meat and meat products, fat intake, and all types of fatty acids (monounsaturated, polyunsaturated and saturated), B complex vitamins intake, intake of chloride, sodium, phosphorus, iron, vitamin D, cholesterol. We found no correlation between calcium intake, or intake of vitamin C and BMD or BMC in measured sites. Results suggests that various diet, containing all of listed nutrients can help achieving higher values of peak bone mass.
