Sažetak
In order to design the acoustics of a space, the acoustician in charge must have comprehensive knowledge acquired from previous experience. The main goal is to predict the acoustic behaviour of spaces by adjusting values of main acoustic parameters to fit optimal ranges defined in norms, recommendations or literature. The majority of important acoustic parameters of spaces are presented in the norm ISO 3382 “Acoustics — Measurement of room acoustic parameters”, but it requires a lot of experience to really understand what will be the effect on the acoustics of a space if a certain parameter is outside its optimal range. Moreover, if the numerical values of parameters are presented to laymen, they will almost certainly not understand its meaning, including the most commonly used acoustic parameter for “measuring” the acoustics of a space – the reverberation time. Auralization of spaces modelled with computers has become very popular with the development and broad availability of personal computer and auralization software, capable of calculating the acoustic parameters of spaces. This paper gives an overview of auralization methods used nowadays for the acoustic design of spaces. It will show their use in a number of case studies, ranging from self-localization research of blind people, use of the tool to present audibly the outcome of acoustic design to acousticians and investors, up to current research in finding noise annoyance levels depending on noise source type and direction. The use of headphones and loudspeakers for auralization will be discussed.
