Sažetak
Across the developed world and in most transition and post-transition countries, in the context of public budget constraints and the challenges of globalisation, demographic change (particularly population aging) and technological innovation, greater emphasis is being placed on improving the efficiency in providing public services, particularly education. This is, of course, highly desirable, but it is frequently assumed that efficiency and equity objectives are mutually exclusive. However, there are cases where equity and efficiency may not trade off against each other. The goal of the article is to identify those circumstances under which equity and efficiency may not trade-off against each other. The topic of analysis is the possible reconciliation of equity and efficiency in education.
