Sažetak
The most important task of the official statistics is to provide a realistic perspective of social and economic phenomena and trends in a country and provide a reliable basis for analysis and decision-making at all levels of society, and perhaps most important to the scientific community for further analysis of unbiased, free and available data from National Statistical Institutes (NSI). Sharing of knowledge, information and practices between NSIs and scientific community is crucial for addressing critical global problems. According to the Peer Review Report for 2015 on compliance with the European Code of Practice and the coordination role of the National Statistical Institute in Croatia, i.e. Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS), most important recommendation from Peer Reviewers refers to user services, e.g. dissemination of official statistics. Recommendations for this area are: redesign of CBS website (improving layout, navigation and usability), extension of coverage of CBS web databases (e.g. dissemination databases), extension of release calendar, commentary and policy documents, and improvement of the service for the authorized research by providing a remote access facility to microdata. To make this possible from the conceptual point of view, the key prerequisite is further standardization and harmonization of conceptual and methodological metadata and data within European statistical system (ESS) and then putting statistical production available to the users. Statistical harmonization, as such, is based on generic and generally accepted information concepts and methods, a common legal framework and terminology as well as the modular and interoperable IT infrastructure, in this case, on the ESS level. This poster will expose different information technologies or platforms and standards for dissemination of official statistical data. Also, we have set to explore situation in some EU member states and draw a parallel with current situation in CBS Croatia, concerning infrastructure for data and metadata dissemination of nationally conducted surveys, such as SDMX Reference Infrastructure, PC-Axis, Data Documentation Initiative (DDI) and Big data initiative. Afterwards, we will suggest further issues and challenges concerning user services for NSIs in general and especially for Croatian statistical authority. We believe that this is direction which might increase the confidence of the scientific community in the statistical data and better cooperation between these actors.
