Sažetak
In order to reduce the number of insecticide treatments, mechanical barriers (netting systems) are increasingly used in integrated production of fruits and grapes. In the frame of Life Plus SUSAFRUIT project a study of the effect of the different insect exclusion photo selective nets (TENAX IRIDIUM) on apple fruit production and their effectiveness in preventing codling moth damages was started. The side effect of these nets on soil fauna, especially on ground beetle fauna, was studied in the frame of Life Plus INSECTLIFE project. During the vegetation season of 2015 in IPM apple orchard in Croatia (Krapina) trial was conducted on the apple cultivar Braeburn on three neighboring apple trees completely covered with anti-hail photo selective nets. Nets were the same in mesh size (2.4 x 4.8 mm) but in different colors (white, red and yellow). Three repetitions of each color of nets and uncovered control were set up and each repetition contained one pitfall trap. Surface active ground beetles were sampled from July 1st until October 15th on a weekly basis. A total of 1206 individuals belonging to 19 species and 12 genera were collected. The highest number of individuals was recorded under yellow nets (413), followed by white nets (363) and red nets (247). On the control 183 individuals were noticed. Altogether 17 species were found under red nets, 16 under yellow nets and 14 under white nets. On the control 15 species were found. Statistical analyses showed statistically significant differences between total catches of species Harpalus rubripes Duftschmid, 1812 ; Microlestes minutulus Goeze, 1777 and Pterostichus melas melas Creutzer, 1799 under different net types compared to the control. For species H. rubripes statistically significant differences were noticed between yellow and white nets compared to the control. For species M. minutulus statistically significant differences were noticed between white nets compared to the control. For species P. melas melas statistically significant differences were noticed between yellow and white nets compared to the control and between yellow nets compared to red nets. The results showed that majority of observed ground beetle species were unaffected by installed netting systems with the exception of species H. rubripes, M. minutulus and P. melas melas which were in average more abundant under netting systems compared to the control. Presented results confirm that in general these types of mechanical barriers have no negative effect on ground beetle fauna.
